Bump mapping an ambient occlusion shader in maya 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows how to add a bump map to an ambient occlusion shader in Maya 2008? I know how to do an AO pass using the occlusion preset in the render _layer_s. But I can't figure out a way to set up a occlusion bump map for some of the _object_s in my scene that have a bump map on the color _layer_. If anyone knows how to create an occlusion shading network with a bump map please let me know.

What you need my friend is the mix20_layer_. This is essentially a _layer_ed shader for Mental Ray. Download it here http://www.pixero.com/downloads_mr.html

You can make a blinn or whatever with a bump on it and put into the _base_ color of the mix20_layer_. Put your mib_amb_occlusion into the color.1 cbanel under _layer_.1 enable _layer_.1 and set the blending mode to multiply. And render render render.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for letting me know about the _layer_ed shader. I already had it installed but didn't know that I could use it for that.
