I am using maya's physical sun and sky to render a large outdoor city model and I am having difficulties adjusting two things...

First, the shadow color and transparency. I cannot figure out how to adjust that, closest i've come is someone suggested using the "shadow_transparency" node, but I have no idea what to connect that to on the mia_physicalsky, sun or exposure nodes.

The second is trying to get better contrast and colors in the render. The PS&S lighting cranks up the gamma so high it washes all of the colors out. I have knocked the shading mutliplier down to .5 or so and I get pretty close to what I want (less blown out at least) but the textures are still washed out. I'm really hoping I dont need to go back and add the gamma node to every texture.


Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Can you post a render? and what version of maya you have? the phisical sun + sky only is not good for interior, you must place a portal light to illuminate interior. see tutorials at:

For contrast render you must select in render setting "custom sampling and play with antialiasing contrast, or exposure simple of phisical sun+sky. but post a render to show me other problems.

I tried adjusting the AA custom sampling and it didnt do anything. also, im not sure what you are referring to with the exposure bit.

here are a couple renders though, the first is with the PSaS multiplier set to .5, and thats the closest render i've gotten to what i want. the second has the multiplier at 1 and its just way too blown out. both of their colors though, are quite washed out and im not sure how to fix that.




and again, there just doesnt seem to be anyway to adjusted the PSaS shadows. i would like to add a little color and a bit more transparency to them

alright, i figured out what you meant with the exposure, that fixed my gamma/washed out texture problem!


I still havent figured out how to adjust the shadow color and transparency though, any ideas there?
