Videotutorial Maya Realtime Render

Video Tutorial realtime render in maya part 1

In the part 1of the videotutorial I will explain how to create the shaders for a reflective material such as plastic and a metal such as chrome, brushed metal, and copper gold.
In this part of the this video tutorial for maya, I will explain how to make 4 important shaders in order to complete the realtime render whithout any plugin, dx11 or other imported shaders. This video includes realtime render inside the maya viewport with the new Viewport 2.0 of Autodesk maya 2012. This technique is very helpful when using a larger quantity of poly or nurbs surfaces to render but have no time for doing it. The tutorial explains a good use of realtime render. For testing the full power of the shaders I used my Pagani Zonda sport car (elevable in Maya objects/vehicles).

Most maya users have trouble using realtime render with ATI video cards, so with this procedure it is possible to do the realtime render with NVIDIA and ATI cards. The computer I have used is a Mac Pro dual quad core with 8 gb of ram and A VGA ATI Radeon HD 5770 Videotutorial how to make the realtime render in the maya viewport without any plugin or particular shader.

The videotutorial will show you how to make the maya viewport

Realtime light shadows
Realtime motion blur
Realtime ambient occlusion
Realtime reflection
Realtime anti aliasing filter
Realtime DOF (only NVIDIA GPU)
Realtime bump

This is a simple realtime render test with the new MAYA 2012 - VIEWPORT 2.0. Here I am using 4 spotlight with depth map shadows enabled on one of my last car model, the pagani Zonda F. For the background I have used a sphere with a lambert shader and an hdri for texture. Another important thing is the plane under the car. Without the plane option the vehicle will look as if it is moving under the tires.

The reflection on the cars body is truly amazing and very realistic considering it is a realtime render. Only a couple of things are not possible to do in realtime. The refraction IOR of the glass and the indirect illumination. These options are possible to fake with realtime ambient occlusion and some spot lights.

When looking at the tires it is the lettering is clearly visible giving it a realistic displacement appericance. This is made with a simple 2d bump linked to the blinn shader.

This is the maya viewport 2.0 of a sport car. The textured plane have a map on the transparency, so is completely trasparent around the borders and become not trasparent in the middle, that's make to dissolve smoothly from the hdri to the plane texture.
